Maintaining the Instrument
Calibrating the Sample Stage

Nicolet iS5 LS User Guide
Stage calibration verifies the distance between the two sample windows during measurements.
The distance is controlled by the motorized sample stage (lower window), which moves
vertically before and after each measurement. After you power up the instrument, allow
approximately 6 hours for the instrument to reach thermal equilibrium before you calibrate
the sample stage. Repeat stage calibration every three months.
Calibrate the sample stage immediately:
• After you have
calibrated the laser frequency
• If the instrument failed the Pathlength portion of the
Before you calibrate the sample stage, make sure the sample windows are clean and dry. The
sampling arm should be closed.
There are two stage calibration tools:
• Quick Calibration (verifies or finely adjusts stage position)
• Full Calibration (recalibrates the stage)
NOTICE
• Run Full Calibration only if Quick Calibration fails or during preventive
maintenance for the instrument.
• Always
