Frameless Biopsy System
No.
Before You Begin
Warning
Before mounting the Frameless Biopsy System, check the Mayfield clamp for signs of
abrasion. Only undamaged headclamps may be used with the Frameless Biopsy System.
Warning
The Frameless Biopsy System is designed for static instruments only, such as biopsy
needles and endoscopes. Do not attach vibrating tools such as drills or instruments
containing moving components to the Frameless Biopsy System as vibrations will loosen
the holding mechanism.
Warning
Do not load the Frameless Biopsy System with too much weight (i.e., do not lean on it, or
place additional instrumentation on it).
For maximum accuracy it is recommended to use the Biopsy Alignment Array mounted to
the short biopsy guiding tube.
The Frameless Biopsy System is not designed for contact with patient tissue.
Handling Biopsy Tubes and Inserts
Warning
Be aware that even if the fixator screw on the biopsy tube is tightened, the instrument can
still be pushed further into the biopsy tube. Do not apply excess force to the instrument as
this may push it too far into the biopsy insert.
Warning
To avoid damage and ensure compatibility when using the Frameless Biopsy System, only
use stereotactic instruments that have the same diameter as that engraved on the biopsy
tube inserts. Remove the biopsy tube from the sleeve when changing the inserts.
Warning
Be careful not to drop the biopsy tube inserts and always ensure that they are tightly
screwed in by hand. Never change biopsy tube inserts in the immediate vicinity of the
operating tab. Remove biopsy guiding tube for changing the inserts.
Warning
Both biopsy tube inserts that are screwed into the tube must be engraved with the same
diameter. Mixing biopsy tube inserts of different diameters in one biopsy tube leads to
inaccurate results during calibration and navigation.
Warning
Do not rotate the instrument during removal as this movement could inadvertently loosen
the biopsy tube inserts.
Do not confuse the guide and biopsy tube screws during surgery as unscrewing the wrong
screw could cause the biopsy tube to fall onto the patient.
