To prevent constriction, do not make the Soulder Strap (C) too tight. It should be possible to put
a finger easily between the strap and the shoulder.
The Abdominal Pad (E) positioned in the center must tightly fit the trunk. Set the Waist Strap (D)
to the proper length to provide a tight fit. The Shoulder Strap should not be twisted.
7 After the Trial Fitting
Once the final fitting has been completed, replace the Velcro Pads with Clip Rivets (J) (Fig. 11).
To do so, rivet the Shoulder and Waist Straps together by hand. Use the large clip rivet for the
Shoulder Strap (numbers 1 – 4) and the Waist Strip (numbers 7 + 8) and the small rivet for the
Waist Strip (numbers 5 + 6).
Explain to the patient how to apply the orthosis and ensure its correct fit. Practice the donning
and doffing of the orthosis with the patient.

8 Side Effects

Attention!
All aids – supports and orthoses – which are applied on the trunk may result in local
pressure spots or, in some cases, even restrict the adjacent vessels or nerves when
they are applied too tightly.
9 Contraindications
Attention!
In the case of the following symptoms the application and wearing of such an aid is only
to be indicated after consultation with the physician:
• Skin diseases and injuries to body parts to which the orthosis is to be fitted, especially
in case of inflamatory symptoms. This applies to prominent scars featuring swelling,
redness, and overheating.
• Lymph flow disorders – also unclear soft tissue swelling in the area of the upper ex-
tremities
• Sensitivity loss in the area of upper extremities
10 Instructions for Use
It is imperative that the orthosis be used in accordance with the indication. The acceptance and
collaboration of the patient play an important role. It is necessary to explain to the patient how to
use the orthosis properly!
It is essential to observe the instructions of the attending physician.
Improper alterations to the orthosis are not permitted.
It is recommended that you always wear a T-shirt or undershirt under the orthosis.
The daily duration of use and total period of application must be determined by the attending phy-
sician. If not prescribed otherwise by the physician, it is recommended to use the orthosis during
the learning phase or while normal muscle strength is being gradually restored for 1 to 2 hours
daily. In the course of the therapy, the time of use can be increased step by step based on the
consultation with the physician. The orthosis must be re-adjusted by the orthotist if necessary.
