3.2 Equipment problems

Problem
The terminal does not
display a prompt to
enter the payment
card (e.g., SWIPE OR
INSERT CARD
does not appear).
Solution
If the terminal is connected to the ECR via a USB or RS232 serial cable:
a. Ensure that the terminal cable to the ECR is securely connected.
Retry the Purchase transaction.
b. If the cable is properly connected, try changing the terminal's port
setting on the ECR. Retry the Purchase transaction again.
c. If adjusting the port settings does not work, try adjusting the ECR's
baud rate. You will also have to adjust the terminal's baud rate to
match the ECR setting (see page 14). Retry the Purchase transaction
again.
If the terminal is linked to the ECR via Ethernet networking:
a. Ensure the Ethernet cable from the terminal to your Ethernet
networking device is securely plugged in and this networking device
is properly connected to your Ethernet network.
b. Ensure that the ECR is properly connected to your Ethernet network.
c. Retry the Purchase transaction. If this does not work,
go to step d.
d. If the cables are properly connected, you may need to change the
terminal's static IP settings:

If your terminal is not configured to use static IP, you must set
up the static IP Ethernet parameters before you can use the
terminal to process transactions. Go to page 11 and follow the
procedure Using Static IP to Communicate with Moneris Test
Host. Then re-try your transaction.

If your terminal is already configured to use static IP, follow the
steps below.
1. Press the

TERMINAL TYPE, TERMINAL ADDR, MASK ID, and
GATEWAY.
4. Change the values of the TERMINAL SETUP parameters
as required.
5. When you are finished and the TERMINAL SETUP menu
is displayed, press the red
