Exploded view - ABS/ESP components

1 - Traction control system

❑ The warning lamp flash‐
es when the vehicle is in
motion and the ESP
control is in operation
❑ The warning lamp lights
up to confirm function
when the ignition is
switched on
❑ The warning lamp lights
up when the ignition is
switched on and goes
out after the vehicle has
been in motion for a
short time, during which
the ESP performs an
automatic learning pro‐
cedure of its sensor sys‐
tems.
❑ The warning lamp lights
up in case of malfunc‐
tion of the ESP or ASR
(traction control) sys‐
tem.
❑ The warning lamp lights
up when the ESP is
switched off.
❑ The warning lamp lights
up in case of a malfunc‐
tion of the ABS, since
the ESP works in con‐
junction with the ABS.
❑ If the battery is disconnected and re-connected, if the engine has been started by boost starting or if the
battery is heavily discharged, the ESP will perform a learning procedure for its sensor systems while the
vehicle is driven for the first few metres. During this procedure the warning lamp will light up. The warning
lamp goes out soon as the learning procedure is finalised.
❑ If the warning lamp lights up as soon as the engine is started, the system may have performed an au‐
tomatic cut-off of the ESP. In this case, the ESP can be re-activated by switching the ignition off and back
on again. The ESP system is ready to operate in the normal way when the warning lamp goes out.
2 - ABS warning lamp - K47-

❑ The warning lamp lights up for some seconds when the ignition is switched on and while the engine is
being started. The warning lamp goes out after an automatic test sequence has been performed suc‐
cessfully.
The following conditions indicate a malfunction of the ABS system:
♦ The warning lamp does not light up when the ignition is switched on.
♦ The warning lamp does not go out after some seconds.
