Density measurement

You can also determine the density of liquids with the aid of the optionally available
density determination set for the K11. If you need density values for measuring the
interfacial tension by the ring method you can measure them directly with the K11.

Parameters for the density measurement in Setup

The first two pages of the setup menu also contain parameters which affect the course
of the measurement of the density. However, in our experience they rarely need to be
altered.

Detection speed (mm/min)

The contact between the plate and the surface of the liquid is registered owing to the
change in force; the height position is stored for the measurement. The search speed
is the speed at which the sample vessel moves upwards to find the liquid surface.
As the surface does not need to be determined exactly the search speed can be
increased for the density measurement. However, for very viscous liquids you should
reduce the speed because the sample body would be pressed upwards on immersion.
In extreme cases this could terminate the measurement if the overload protection of
the balance is activated.
