tension (e.g. water/hexane). In such cases the ring is completely immersed in
the heavy phase, which is then carefully overlayered by the lighter phase.
During the measurement the film is then pulled upwards from the heavy phase
into the lighter phase.

(e.g. chloroform/water). In such cases both phases are filled in, then the ring is
completely wetted by the lighter phase without coming into contact with the
heavy phase. During the measurement the ring is pushed from the lighter phase
into the heavy phase.

Correction

For reasons that lie in the measurement principles for the ring method, a correction of
the measured surface tension values is necessary. In the evolutional history of this
method several correction methods have been developed. Four options for the ring
correction are available for the K11:
None (0): If measurement values are to be compared with data from other
tensiometers for which no correction was used, the option
For any other case this option should not be selected; the correction is necessary
for accurate measurements.

range of application of the correction calculation; this means that this correction
method has the largest range of validity while still possessing sufficient accuracy. If
you want to make measurements with the greatest possible accuracy you should
select the Harkins & Jordan correction method but keep its range of validity in mind
