CONFIGURING THE PC ETHERNET INTERFACE

To enable the PC to communicate reliably with the ModuLab XM system, the
dedicated Ethernet card must be given a unique address that is outside the range of
addresses used by the ModuLab XM. Windows XP, 7 and 8, by default, use
automatic addressing on power-up, and in most circumstances this will enable the
PC to recognise the ModuLab XM addresses and assign a different address to the
dedicated Ethernet card. However, it is also possible to set the address manually.
The ModuLab XM system uses the default IP addresses given in Table 2-2 below:

Each chassis has 4 or 8 slots, but the addresses ending in 10 to 119 should be
reserved for the ModuLab XM in case they are needed for an expanded system.
The dedicated Ethernet card can use any of the remaining addresses ending in 120
to 254 and the address can be set from the Windows Operating System.
Chapter 4, Expanding the ModuLab XM System.
NOTE:
The procedure for setting an IP address depends on the installed version of
Windows, and the configuration of the Windows user interface. The following sub-
section describes typical procedures for Windows XP.

Section 2.5, Installing the Modules in the Chassis.
On a multi-user Operating System such as Windows XP, 7 or 8, you
have to be logged in as a user with sufficient privileges to set an IP
address. If you cannot access all the features in this section, ask your
system administrator to upgrade your user privileges or set the IP
address for you.
