Expanding the ModuLab XM System
4.1.3
Assigning the Module Addresses
In both of the examples already described, with chasses connected in parallel or
through a switch, the modules which have Ethernet interfaces (potentiostats and
FRAs) have to be given unique addresses. One chassis can have its modules left
at their default addresses, while the modules in the next chassis have to be given
new addresses. It is recommended that they are numbered sequentially upwards,
according to their slots, beginning with any suitable number. For example, if
slot 1 in Chassis 1 has address 169.254.254.10, Slot 1 in Chassis 2 could be
169.254.254.20. If a chassis contains femto ammeters, HV modules and boosters
that have no Ethernet addresses, it means the addresses for these slots will be
unused, but will be available in case potentiostats or FRAs are subsequently fitted
in these slots.
Section 2.5 and its sub-sections. Make sure the modules in each chassis are
correctly installed and in the correct order, before assigning module
addresses.
Table 4-1 gives an example of the numbering system for a two-chassis system
with four slots per chassis.

Chassis 2
To set up the addresses in this way
1. Disconnect Chassis 1 from the system.
2. Connect Chassis 2 to the computer, using the PC port on the Chassis.
3. Set the addresses to the appropriate values, taking into account the addresses
available for the system.
4. Reconnect Chasses 1 and 2 according to the required configuration.
To operate a system with multiple chasses, it will be necessary to give each of
them a unique name from the ModuLab XM software and perform a
communication test, as described in the next section.
