Section 3
Mounting Reference Track Assembly
For Direct Mode mounting, you will use the Number Index value to establish the distance between
transducers and Mounting Guide. This method will locate the transducers at the nine o'clock and three
o'clock positions. The Mylar Mounting Guide comes in various lengths and widths to accommodate
most pipe sizes (see list below).
Select transducer mounting location (3 and 9 o'clock position) and prepare surface of pipe (Figure
1). Smooth irregular surfaces and clean pipe of dirt, grease and rust (see paragraphs 3.3.2 and
3.3.4).
NOTE: Mounting to painted surfaces is acceptable only if the paint is uniform and bonded
well to the pipe. If any pits or air bubbles are observed, paint must be removed or
another location should be considered.
9 o'clock position
Using a flat blade screwdriver or 5/16" nutdriver, mount the Reference Mounting Track Assembly
on pipe. Install straps but do not tighten at this time (Figure 2).
Rotate the mounting track to the previously selected location on the pipe and fully tighten the
securing straps.
NOTE: The track assembly is self-aligning to the pipe axis. You can check this by visually
checking if the edge of the track is parallel with horizontal axis of the pipe.
