Clutch operation checking steps:
-lnst~1I
the starter wheel gear to the starter
clutch, and hold the starter clutch.
-When turning the wheel gear clockwise, the
starter clutch and the wheel gear 'should be
engaged.
If not, the starter clutch is faulty. Replace it.
-When turning the wheel gear counterclock-
wise, the wheel gear should turn freely.
If not, the starter clutch is faulty. Replace it.
INSPECTION AND REPAIR

3. Check:
- Starter clutch operation
4. Inspect:
-Bearing
CD
Damage~
Replace.
- Bolts (Starter clutch)
(2)
Loose~
Replace with a new one, and clinch
the end of the bolt.
NOTE:
_
The arrow mark on the starter clutch must face
inward, away from the COl rotor.
Bolts (Starter Clutch):
30 Nm (3.0 m-kg, 22 ft-Ib)
LOCTITE®.
After Installing the Starter
Clutch, Calk the Bolt End.
BALANCER DRIVE GEAR AND
BALANCER GEAR
1. Inspect:
- Balancer drive gear teeth
CD
- Balancer driven gear teeth
(2)
Wear/Damage~Replace
both gears.
