NOTES:

When unicast streaming, the SME 211 sends an individual stream to each
viewing device. This means that the total bandwidth increases as the number of
actively connected viewing devices increases and the total bandwidth between
the SME 211 and associated local switch decreases as the number of actively
connected viewing devices decreases.

Multicast Streaming Method — An Overview
Multicast streaming is used for live audio and video applications which require "one-to-
many" delivery of content. The SME 211 allows the use of a variety of streaming protocols
to send data to multicast groups. This allows many users to view the data simultaneously
while using bandwidth efficiently. When using multicast streaming, the SME 211 does not
need to know the IP addresses of the individual devices viewing the stream.
NOTE: When using multicast streaming, every component of the network infrastructure
(network switches and routers) must be correctly configured to efficiently handle the
multicast traffic. These settings include multicast filtering and IGMP (Internet Group
Management Protocol) snooping to ensure that the multicast traffic is only delivered
to the intended recipients and is not flooding ports. The maximum number of device
connection supported is dependent on the type of distribution network used.
Multicast streaming is applicable to both push or pull streaming. The SME 211 can "push"
the data to multicast groups for broad distribution, or receiving devices can use "pull"
streaming where the SME 211 waits for viewing devices to request the stream before
exchanging connection details.
