Air in the cooling system
Cooling fan motors faulty
Coolant thermal switch faulty
Thermal expansion valve faulty (locked in closed position)
Coolant pump or coolant pump control drive faulty
Insufficient engine oil in the system
Oil pump or oil pump control faulty, or oil circuit clogged
Motor oil not to spec.
Intake couplings or intake system leaking
Injectors faulty
Head gaskets faulty
Thermal expansion valve faulty (locked in open position)
Too much oil in the engine
Valve stem gaskets worn
Valve stems or valve guides worn
Signs of scratches or scoring on the cylinder walls
