The arrangement known as Trainer (Teacher / Pupil)
mode is the safest method for beginners to get started
in model sport. Two transmitters are inter-connected
using a special lead. An experienced modeller has
control over the model, and is able to transfer control
functions to the pupil by operating the Trainer button
("TEACHER" button). Initially these will be individual
control functions, and later all the main control func-
tions when the "Pupil" has gained sufficient skill. If in-
dividual control functions are transferred, the Teacher
retains control over the remaining control functions. If
he releases the TEACHER button, the tutor resumes
full control of the model - typically if a dangerous
situation develops. The Teacher transmitter alone
transmits an RF signal, powers the Pupil transmitter
and carries out all the data processing. This means
that the Pupil transmitter simply needs to be switched
to Pupil mode, although this does vary according to
transmitter type. No further adjustments or program-
ming work are required. All the Teacher transmitter
needs from the Pupil transmitter are the pure stick
signals.
The ROYAL SX can be used both as Teacher trans-
mitter and Pupil transmitter.
As Teacher transmitter the ROYAL SX can transfer
up to five functions to the Pupil.
For fixed-wing model aircraft these are:
Aileron, elevator, rudder, throttle, spoiler.
For model helicopters:
Roll, pitch-axis, yaw, collective pitch.
As Pupil transmitter it also generates the functions
listed above, which can then be processed by the
Teacher transmitter. If the ROYAL SX is in Pupil mode,
the trims, mixers and all transmitter control and servo
adjustments are switched off.

The ROYAL SX as Teacher transmitter

a. The Teacher and Pupil transmitters are interconnected
using the Trainer lead # 8 5121 plugged into the
multi-function sockets. Connect the lead the right
way round: the Pupil end of the cable is marked
"Schüler", the Teacher end "Lehrer".
The following can be used as the Pupil transmitter:
ROYAL SX, ROYALevo7 / 9 / 12, Cockpit MM,
Cockpit SX, Commander mc, EUROPA mc,
PiCOline, PROFI mc 3010 / 3030 / 4000.
Many earlier MULTIPLEX transmitters can also be
used as Pupil units. If your proposed Pupil trans-
mitter is not listed above, please ask our Customer
Service department for advice.
b. Switch the Teacher transmitter (ROYAL SX) on.
The Pupil transmitter is also switched on automati-
cally, as it is powered by the Teacher transmitter.
Important: the ON / OFF switch on the Pupil
transmitter must be left in the OFF position.
c. Move to the sub-menu Setup, Training.
Select Mode, and confirm with ENTER. Rotate one
of the 3-D digi-adjusters until you see the following
display:

for fixed-wing models
The "<M" indicator means that the button on the
left-hand side (<) of the transmitter is the Trainer
switch used to transfer control. If you operate this
switch, an asterisk appears, indicating that the Pu-
pil now has control.
d. Select:
Mode = Teach.M, if the Pupil transmitter generates
signals in the MULTIPLEX format (Neutral signal =
1.6 ms):
e.g. ROYALevo7 / 9 / 12 with "Pupil M", Cockpit MM
with servo format set to "M", Cockpit SX with
"SCHULM", Commander mc, EUROPA mc,
PiCOline, PROFI mc 3010 / 3030 / 4000).
Mode = Teach.U, if the Pupil transmitter generates
signals in the UNIVERSAL format (neutral signal =
1.5 ms):
e.g. PiCO-line, ROYALevo transmitter with "Pupil U",
COCKPIT MM with servo format set to "U" (UNI),
Cockpit SX with "SCHULU".
e. Select the function which the Pupil is to control,
then press the ENTER button or one of the 3-D
digi-adjusters.
 The cursor now moves to the channel assign-
ment input field.
f. At the Pupil transmitter move the control which is
to operate the selected control function (Quick-
Select). The corresponding channel number is dis-
played (e.g. "K1" for aileron). Check that the control
