How are mixers used in helicopters?

For model helicopters the mixers required to control
the various rotor head types and the tail rotor are pre-
programmed as standard. As a result, the free mixers
(1 to 14) cannot be used when assigning the servos
for model helicopters.
However, there are three free transmitter control mix-
ers, and they can be used to mix the signals from the
controls ROLL, PITCH and YAW into the transmitter con-
trols ROLL, PITCH, YAW, THROTTLE or COLLECTIVE
PITCH.
The most important application for these facilities is
the various compensation mixers, in which all the con-
trol functions are mixed into THROTTLE. For exam-
ple, these mixers make it possible to compensate for
the increased power requirement when the pilot
makes deliberate control commands.
The settings in these mixers might look as follows:
£Comp.Mix.CRUISE
© Aileron ™ -> Throttle
Travel
Elevator™ -> Throttle
Travel
Rudder
š -> Throttle
Travel+
Travel-
Roll and Pitch (-axis) are mixed into Throttle
symmetrically. Separate values for "left" and "right"
can be entered for yaw.

Summary of the "free mixers"

11.4.6.
 Fourteen free mixers are available.
 Mixer names (max. eight characters), mixer inputs,
switches and method of working can be changed
in all mixer definitions.
 Up to five free mixers can be used simultaneously
for a particular model.
 Every mixer you use can be assigned to as many
servo channels as you wish.
 The menu £Mixer only displays those mixers to
which at least one servo has been assigned.
 Only Control mixers are available for helicopters.

Model templates

11.5.1.

Why are model templates needed?

The model templates make it much easier and quicker
to set up new models, as a large part of the routine
work is accomplished just by selecting the appropriate
template. Use a template, and you can immediately
start entering the settings for the model.
The model templates themselves cannot be changed.
However, when you set up a new model and load a
copy of the template into the model memory, you can
then access it and make changes as needed.
Advantage: since the template itself cannot be al-
tered (even accidentally), it is always available in the
exact form described in the Manual.

What do the model templates contain?

a. Basic mixer settings
The main input is set to full servo travel; all other
inputs to OFF.
b. Basic transmitter control settings
Travel and Dual-Rate to 100%
Expo to 0%
Trim increment to 1.5%.
c. Basic servo settings
Servo travels 100%
Centre to 0%.
d. Basic flight phase settings
All four possible flight phases are assigned names.
However, only the following are unlocked by default:
- for fixed-wing models: NORMAL
- for helicopters: HOVER and AUTOROT (Autorotation).
11.5.3.

Which model templates are available?

1. BASIC
2. ACRO
3. HOTLINER
4. DELTA
5. GLIDER
6. 4 FLAPS
Amongst these eight model templates you are bound
to find one which is so close to your model that only
minor corrections are necessary to produce a perfect
match.
For a detailed description of the model templates
please refer to section ( 21.1.) "Fixed-wing models"
and ( 21.2.) "Helicopters".

Servo configuration

The term servo configuration refers to the order in
which the servos are connected to the receiver output
sockets. There are four possible choices:
a. M-PCM
for use with the new sequence optimised for the
new M-PCM transmission mode
b. MPX-UNI
the standard sequence used for many years by
MULTIPLEX and many other makes of transmitter
c. FUTABA
d. JR.
If you have already flown the model with a FUTABA or
JR transmitter, we recommend that you select the cor-
responding configuration.
Note: the receiver output assignment for the four pos-
sible configurations can be found in the Overview
( 21.3.) "Servo configuration".
