16.3.1 Removing carbon brushes

Loosen Phillips screws (1) and remove
motor protective casing (2).
Loosen slotted screw (3)
Lift contact spring (4)
Pull carbon brush (5) out of its guide

16.3.2 Check carbon brushes

Length check:
Measure the length of the carbon brush:
Original length = 18 mm.
Wear limit = 15 mm.
If the carbon brush has reached the wear limit,
it must be replaced.
Testing the running surface:
Perform a visual inspection of the running surface. Only very slight running traces must be
noticeable. If the running surface shows deep grooves, the motor collector is damaged. Any
further repair of the motor can only be performed by the INVACARE Service.

16.3.3 Refitting carbon brushes

Installation takes place in reverse order.

The carbon brushes may not be tilted. They must be able to move smoothly within their guides
