14.4.3 Charging procedure

Caution:
•
Batteries are not allowed to lie on their sides or stand on edge while being
charged. The battery poles must point upward.
•
Only the prescribed batteries may be used.
•
The batteries and charger must be exposed to the same surrounding temperature,
because the charging process is controlled by temperature sensors amongst other
devices. Extended charging cables and varying locations of charger and batteries
can result in a defective charging of the batteries.

Observe the sequence for connecting the Invacare charger:
First pull charging plug, then mains plug.
•
Fully discharged batteries cannot be charged with the Invacare charger.
•
If the batteries are not fully charged, they must be replaced.
•
When fully charged, the green LED (100%) on the charger will be illuminated.
Once a charging voltage of 28 V has been reached, the LEDs on the joystick box
will be blinking in addition.
The voltage in an individual battery should be 14 ± 0.2 V at room temperature
(approx. 20 – 22 °C) when fully charged.

14.4.4 Charging of fully discharged batteries

If a voltage of less than 9.5 V is measured at a battery, the battery is fully discharged.
For charging a fully discharged battery, proceed as follows:
•
Remove the batteries from the vehicle.
•
Pre-charge each battery individually while simultaneously measuring the charging voltage.
•
Pre-charge battery up to 10 V by means of an unregulated charger.
Then stop charging procedure.
Caution:
•
Batteries are not allowed to lie on their sides or stand on edge while being
charged.
•
Do not fully charge batteries using an unregulated charger. – batteries can be
destroyed. There is an explosion hazard!
•
Put batteries back into the vehicle.
•
Fully charge battery using the Invacare charger via the joystick box charging socket . The
charging procedure should last for at least 48 hours.
