Configuring a 719 Networker

Unlike the port configuration for the 74x multiplexers (which have two network administration
ports) and the 724/735 multiplexers (which have one control port), the 6800 Series NMS port
configuration for the 719 NETWORKER may use several channel ports and one link.
One channel port must be configured for sending event/alarm information from the multiplexer
network to the NMS host computer. Another channel port can be defined to permit access to the
external systems. If 724/735 multiplexers are being used, a channel port must be configured for
each pair (master and slave) of these multiplexers. If an event log printer (ELP) is used for printing
a local copy of network events, a 719 channel port must be configured for the printer. In addition
to these channels ports, a link must be designated as an external supervisory data link (SDL)
between the 719 NETWORKER and any ACCULINK multiplexer.
To configure the 719 NETWORKER, perform the following procedures:
These procedures are explained and illustrated in the remaining sections of this chapter. The
sample configuration process and the parameter settings shown on the screens are based on one
74x multiplexer and one 719 NETWORKER colocated with an NMS host computer (refer back to
Figure 2-2).
After you have configured the 719 NETWORKER, refer to Chapter 1 to connect to the NMS.
2-24
Connect an ASCII terminal or a PC to the NETWORKER to access the 719
NETWORKER's internal menus.
Define the system parameters.
Define a 719 channel port for the terminal or PC.
Create a control mode group.
If a 74x multiplexer is connected to the NETWORKER, define an SDL profile. The
corresponding SDL port should have been configured on the ACCULINK multiplexer
before you define an SDL profile.
Define direct routes between nodes.
Set up the external systems channel port on the 719 NETWORKER.
Set up the event channel port on the 719 NETWORKER.
Set up the command channel port on the 719 NETWORKER.
If 724/735 multiplexers are used in the network, configure 724/735 channel ports.
If an ELP is used for local hard copy, connect the ELP to the NETWORKER and configure
the ELP channel port.
Assign symbolic names to channel groups. (This is required for the 724/735 multiplexers
and is optional for the ACCULINK multiplexers.)
