One local 74x multiplexer (Figure 2-4). When you have a small network, a single local 74x
multiplexer may be sufficient. The event and command ports are directly connected to the
two NAPs. Multiplexer menu access through the external systems port is not essential;
nearly all of the functionality built into the multiplexer menu system is available through
6800 Series NMS commands. If you need to access the internal menu system of the
multiplexer, you can connect a terminal or PC to a 74x NAP on another 74x node.
Figure 2-4 shows a single 74x multiplexer colocated with the NMS host processor. The
event and command ports are connected to the two NAPs of a single multiplexer. You would
configure event datagram NAPs for both connections.
