Alarm Severity Reporting Configuration

You can configure ACCULINK multiplexers (except the 741 chassis) so that when they detect a
particular class of node and facility alarms they will activate alarm relays or an audible alarm on
the multiplexers themselves. This feature is not supported by the 741 chassis since it does not have
alarm relays.
You can configure alarm severity using the Change Node Configuration Parameters (chncp)
command. It allows you to activate the priority levels for alarm relays and audible alarms at
multiple nodes in one operation (this is only one of many functions supported by this command).
When you execute this command with the Configure Alarm Severity Reporting field set to Yes,
a series of input forms display, some of which are for alarm severity reporting for classes of facility
and node alarms. On these forms you can specify the alarm relays and audible alarm parameters.
You can also activate the severity levels for audible alarm or alarm relays for one node at a time. If
you specify a 740-chassis node, you can designate the alarm relay or audible alarm that is activated
when an alarm occurs on an aggregate link, a DS1 channel interface module, a control processor
module, etc. If you specify a 745 node, you can designate the alarm relay or audible alarm that is
activated when an alarm occurs on a T1 link, a control processor, a TSI clock, etc.
Using this command, each alarm class can be assigned one, a combination, or none of the
following alarm signals.
audible
major
minor
none
If you want to check which classes of node and facility alarms are configured to activate alarm
relays and audible alarms, execute the Display Node Configuration Parameters (dsncp) command
with the Configure Alarm Severity Reporting field set to Yes.
For detailed information on these commands, refer to the COMSPHERE 6800 Series Network
Management System Multiplexer Command Reference Manual.

Event Reporting Configuration

Event log messages are generated by the ACCULINK multiplexers whenever anything of interest
occurs within the node. This can be an alarm or fault condition, or an informational message.
There are three event logs (see NOTE) supported by the multiplexers with event log 2 being used
as the standard event log for sending events to the NMS. Event logs 1 and 3 can provide the
capability to send event log messages from the node to another Series 700 node or to an event log
printer.

The alarm activates the major alarm LED on the power shelf front bezel and the major
alarm relay.
The alarm activates the minor alarm LED on the power shelf front bezel and the minor
alarm relay.
