The PollParms File

The polling parameters are contained in a UNIX text file named PollParms which resides in the
directory /usr/nms/RNMS/ANM/data/backup. You may change the parameters by editing this file.
The PollParms file contains comment lines beginning with the pound sign (#) that describe the
format of the file, and a single data line specifying the values of the four parameters. Note that the
parameters must be specified in the same order they are found in Table 1-2 and should be separated
by white space (i.e., tab and/or space characters). The line that specifies the default parameter
settings looks like this:
To edit or view the PollParms file, perform the following steps:
1. Log in as root.
2. Change directory to the /usr/nms/RNMS/ANM/data/backup directory.
3. Open the PollParms file for edit using a UNIX text editor, such as vi.
4. Set tabstops to 4. For example, if you are using vi, do the following:

Activating Polling Parameter Changes

After the polling parameters have been changed, the parameters may be immediately activated
without shutting down and restarting the 6800 Series NMS. To activate changes, perform the
following steps:
1. Log in as root.
2. Change directory to the /usr/nms/RNMS/bin/ANM directory.
3. TYPE: ./PollInit
Note that if any of the new polling parameters are not valid (i.e., too small or too large), the default
polling parameters given in Table 1-2 will be used.

Displaying the Poll List

When you need to know what devices are being polled by NMS, you can execute the Display
System Poll List dsspl) command from the Manager task. This command shows the control
channel, device type, devices on the control channel, whether or not system polling is active, and
the port number for the device.
If there is more than one page of control channels to view, press the page down or page up keys to
move between the pages.
To display the polling and event reporting states for the multiplexer control channel, use the
Display Alert Monitoring State (dsams) command. Use the Display Node Configuration
Parameters (dsncp) command to see the asynchronous reporting state for only one multiplexer
node.
