COMSPHERE 6800 Series Nework Management System

Overview

The multiplexer ports used for communicating to NMS have different names depending on the
multiplexer types: network administration ports (NAPs) for the 74x and 74x-56K multiplexers, the
control port for a 724/735 multiplexer, and channel ports for the 719 NETWORKER.
These port connections allow for five basic configurations:

2-2
Two local 74x/74x-56K multiplexers (Figure 2-1). Each 74x/74x-56K multiplexer has two
NAPs. If two local 74x/74x-56K multiplexers are used, all three 6800 Series NMS
multiplexer ports can connect to any three of the four available NAPs. The remaining NAP
can be used to connect to an event log printer as shown in Figure 2-1. You can then
configure the NAPs to provide transmission compatibility.
The NAP connections shown here can also be distributed between
four different 74x nodes.
The two NAP connections from the 74x can be on two separate 74x
nodes.
