Maintenance Manual for Chery·Windcloud
MOTOROLA EFI System
EFI Maintenance Precautions:
4.1 Fuel
Unleaded premium gasoline (in conformity with SH0041 standard, lead≤ 0.005g/L) for
vehicles shall be used with RON no less than 90 or above 90, otherwise, damage may occur
on engine management system and three-way catalytic converter and affect emission. In
addition, sulphur or lead may damage heated oxygen sensor.
4.2 Start-up
At any working condition, EFI system will provide fuel injection pulse width as appropriate.
Therefore, throttle requires no stepping prior to/after hot start or cold start.
It takes relatively long time for the first start-up (i.e. new vehicle or newly maintained fuel
system), because fuel pipe needs fuel filling to appropriate pressure.
The method of restoring fuel rail pressure after maintenance or re-filling of fuel is: to wind
key to ON position and wait for 3 seconds, and repeat for several times. Every time when
starting-up, fuel pump turning-on sound can be heard with about 1 second continuation.
4.3 Idle speed
After start-up, engine requires several minutes of idling for warming-up. Normal idle speed is
850±50r/min (coolant temperature ≥85°C). In case of cold engine, engine operates at a higher
rotating speed for warming-up under the control of electronic control unit. As the ascending
of coolant temperature, idle speed will lower down to normal rotating speed. If air
conditioner is turned on when engine is idling, electronic control unit will increase idling
speed for about 100 r/min.
4.4 Stall engine
Engine, before stalling, shall have be idling for a period of time to decrease temperature in a
smooth way, so as to reduce thermal impact strength and benefit the extension of service life
of operating parts of engine and three-way catalytic converter.
4.5 Fuel circulation
When fuel supply pressure is up to 2.5 bar, the fuel inlet/outlet pipes shall be connected well
and fasten with clamp. When checking fuel line , in case fuel rail and fuel pipe are pulled out,
starting engine is strictly forbidden. Otherwise, the leakage of fuel may cause fire hazard.
Make sure to release fuel pressure first before disassembling fuel system parts.
Pressure regulator block or fuel return pipe flow restriction will cause fuel line pressure to be
on the high side.
4.6 Injector
For long-term idle vehicle, the engine shall be started every 2-3 months for 3-5 minutes to
avoid clogging of injection nozzle. Injector shall be cleaned at least annually. The O- ring of
injector is disposable part, which can not be reused.
4.7 Three-way catalytic converter
Do not remove spark plug or high voltage wire to check flashover status when ignition switch
is ON or engine is in operation. When checking ignition status, pull out plugs of all injection
nozzles, and then the spark plug of engine, later connect it to high voltage wire of
corresponding cylinder, and make its threaded portion safely grounded with cylinder block,
and then start engine to see the flashover status of spark plug. Otherwise, the catalyzer may
be damaged easily.
Caution: if engine is kept working, the catalytic converter will become extremely hot; in case
maintaining such converter, make sure to wear protective gloves so as to avoid injury.
