194 Chapter 14 Power-and-ground hardware of a Passport 15000 or 20000
BIM replacement
Prerequisites to BIM replacement
241-1501-240 5.2S2
Replace a breaker interface module (BIM) to restore power from a breaker
interface panel (BIP) to its half of the shelf assembly or to accommodate
replacing an upper shelf Passport 15000 with a Passport 20000 in a NEBS
2000 frame.

You need a BIM with one of the appropriate PECs identified in the table
"Combinations of BIMs in a BIP" (page 195).
— When using a new BIM, identify the PEC from its shipping
container.
— When redeploying one or both BIMs from another BIP, you must
identify the PEC of each from your site records.
•
Since the PEC of a BIP is not visible on it and there are no exterior
features to distinguish an AP6C62 from an AP6C68, you must verify
which BIP you have from
— the cover of the upper cable management channel on the front of the
lower shelf assembly, which has a label identifying the shelf node as
a Passport 15000 or a Passport 20000. On older models of a
Passport 15000, the cover is blank.

The BIP for a Passport 20000 accommodates BIMs with higher power
ratings than the BIP of a Passport 20000. A BIM pair for a
Passport 15000 can operate in the BIP of a Passport 20000 to power a
Passport 15000. The BIM pair for a Passport 20000 must not be operated
in the BIP of a Passport 15000 to power a Passport 20000. The PECs of
BIM pairs must always match exactly. For the safe mix of BIMs, see the
table "Combinations of BIMs in a BIP" (page 195).
