Installing a CP

Passport 15000, 20000 Hardware Installation, Maintenance, and Upgrade

Install a CP into an empty CP slot to enable switch operation or to resume

backing up the active CP.

You must be familiar with "Safety considerations and best practices"

You need a CP with one of the following PECs:

— NTHR06 for a DS1 CP2E BITS interface

— NTHR35 for an E1 CP2E BITS interface

— NTHW06 for a DS1 CP3 BITS interface

— NTHW08 for an E1 CP3 BITS interface

For a Passport 15000 or 20000, install the ﬁrst CP in slot 0 and the second

in slot 1. Refer to the ﬁgure "Location of CPs in a lower switch"

(page 401). (Slots 0E and 1E are reserved for later development.)

If there is a blank processor card in slot 0 (zero) or 1 (one) where the CP

is to be installed, remove it according to "Removing a blank processor

card" (page 662).

At the ends of the faceplate, swing each latch fully open by pinching the

inner edge of the latch and lifting away from the faceplate. Refer to the

ﬁgure "Open card latches on a CP, FP, or blank processor card"

While holding the CP by its top and bottom edges with the latches on the

right side of the faceplate, align the end with the backplane pins to the

tracks in the slot.

Gently slide the CP into the slot until the CP stops moving. There are

keyways and guide pins to ensure that the CP aligns with the connections

at the backplane (inside at the rear of the shelf). If you feel resistance, do

not force the CP in. Remove it, and check the backplane at the rear of the

slot for bent pins. You may need a ﬂashlight to see into the slot. If no pins

are bent, re-seat the CP. If any pin is bent, do not insert a CP and contact

your technical support representative of Nortel Networks.
