2.1 Preface

2.1.4 Cautions on Using FIP

1
Perform checking only in the unit of parts supplied.Never disassemble, replace, or check any
parts other than those supplied.Never disassemble the supplied parts or replace any internal
parts.Mounting of any parts other than those supplied is prohibited because quality and safety
cannot be guaranteed.
2
For the "Initial Check" according to the FIP, check only items which can be easily checked.
3
In the "Initial Check" according to the FIP, in addition to the "Main Check Parts", check the com-
ponent parts of the main check parts and related parts.
4
When servicing, always unplug the power cord unless required otherwise. When the power cord
is plugged in, never touch any energized part unless absolutely necessary.
5
The meanings of displays for the connectors are as follows:
[P/J12] > Connector (P/J12) is connected.
[P12] > The plug side with the connector (P/J12) disconnected (except when connected directly
to the board)
J12]
[
> The jack side with the connector (P/J12) disconnected (except when connected directly
to the board)
6
[P/J1-2 PIN <=> P/J3-4PIN] in FIP means measurement with the positive side of the measuring
instrument connected to [2 PIN] of [P/J1] and the negative side to [4 PIN] of [P/J3].
7
[P/J1<=> P/J2] in the FIP means measurement for all terminals corresponding between [P/J1]
and [P/J2] based on "Chapter 7 Wiring Data".
8
As for [P/J1-2 PIN <=> P/J3-4PI] when measuring voltage in FIP, [P/J3-4PIN] at the rear nega-
tive side should always be either AG [Analog Ground], SG [Signal Ground], or RTN
[Return].Therefore, only after checking for definite conduction between the "AGs", "SGs", and
"RTNs" respectively, the rear negative side can be connected to PIN of "AG", "SG", and "RTN"
instead of [P/J3 - 4PIN].
However, pay attention not to confuse "AG", "SG", and "RTN" because they are not on the same
level.
9
The voltages of the small connectors are measured using a specialized tool.Handle the tool with
care because it has a sharp end.
10
When measuring the voltage, install the toner cartridge and the sheet feeder, close the cover
unless required otherwise, and turn ON the power.
11
The numerical values described in the FIP are for reference only. Approximate values are con-
sidered to be the same.
12
Note that the parts that must be removed for checking specified in the FIP and their procedures
are not described in the document.
13
"Replacement" according to the FIP means the parts that are considered to be the cause of the
problem, and to replace and check the parts or the assembly part (HIGH ASSY) that contains
those parts.
