The Speech Compressor function increases average
RF output power, improving signal strength and read-
ability.
q Push [SSB] to select the USB or LSB mode.
w Adjust the [MIC GAIN] control so that the ALC
meter reads within the ALC zone, whether or not
you speak softly or loudly.
e Push [MENU] to display the "M1" screen (Menu 1),
then push [COMP](F-3) to turn ON the Speech Com-
pressor.
r Hold down [COMP](F-3) for 1 second to display the
"COMP" screen (Compressor).
t While speaking into the microphone at your normal
voice level, rotate [MAIN DIAL] so the COMP meter
reads within the COMP zone.
