4. Select Fixed Disk.
5. Select Remove a Fixed Disk.
6. From the list on the screen, select the disk you want to remove.
7. When you get to the Keep Definition option, select Yes. This retains the details of
the drive in the device configuration database.
8. Select the Do option to remove the drive.
9. The drive can now be removed from the drawer. Return to the procedure that
directed you here.
Configuring (Replacing)
To configure (replace) a disk drive, do the following:
1. Log in as root user.
2. Enter the smit command.
3. Select Devices.
4. Select Fixed Disk.
5. Select Configure a Defined Disk.
6. Select the disk that you made "Defined" earlier.
7. Return to the procedure that directed you here.
Removal
This procedure describes how to remove hot-swap disk drives from a hot-swap bay
while the 10 EIA-unit I/O drawer is powered on.
If you remove a hot-swap disk drive when the 10 EIA-unit I/O drawer power is off, step
4 does not apply.
Attention:
be damaged during installation and service. Bumping or handling drives roughly causes
latent failures. Do not stack drives, and always use appropriate ESD practices. For ESD
information. See "Handling Static-Sensitive Devices" on page 491. A drop of as little as
6.5 mm (.25 inches) can cause latent failures. Media can take 30 seconds to spin
down, so ensure at least a 30 second delay has passed after switching off
hot-swappable drives for removal.
1. Open the front door of the I/O rack.
2. Loosen the screws that hold the disk drive cover to the drawer and remove the disk
drive cover from the drawer, storing it in a safe place.
