The EP cartridge has toner and drum as one body. The EP cartridge is a consumable.
When the toner is getting low, the "EP Cartridge Needs Replacement" message appears on
the LCD on the control panel.
8.1.1

EP Cartridge Life

Even after the "EP Cartridge Needs Replacement" message appears when the
toner is getting low, the factory-shipped printer is set to continue to print until the
toner in the EP cartridge is used up. Insufficient toner of the EP cartridge could
cause a light area in a printed document or print dropouts. When the cartridge
needs replacing, replace it with a new EP cartridge.
When the number of pages you want to print is specified after the "EP Cartridge Needs Replacement"
message has appeared, the message like "Replace EP Cartridge" is shown following completion of
printing of the specified number of pages. You will not be able to print before replacing the EP
cartridge. Be sure to replace the EP cartridge with a new one.
There is the following type of EP cartridge:
10Kpv
Prints about 10,000 sheets (one side of A4-size paper).
A4-size paper: Image coverage = 5%, Darkness = Initial value

If an EP cartridge not recommended is used, the quality and performance of this product may not be
expected. For this printer, use the recommended EP cartridge.
