8. Have the customer record the VIOS boot device. If multiple devices are mapped to the VIOS, record
the current device.
Note: Boot device information is stored in the service processor of the system-board and it must be
manually restored after the system-board is replaced with a new system-board.
Enter the following commands in the padmin shell of each VIOS partition:
v oem_setup_env
v bootlist –m normal –o –v
These commands provide the device tree path. Record the output information. This information is
used in step 30 on page 73 of this procedure.
9. Have the customer shut down the operating system on all partitions of the compute node, and turn
off the compute node.
10. Remove the compute node from the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis. See "Removing the
compute node from an IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis" on page 29.
11. Carefully lay the compute node on a flat, static-protective surface, with the cover side up.
12. Open and remove the compute node cover. See "Removing the compute node cover" on page 31.
13. Remove the bezel assembly. See "Removing the bezel assembly" on page 34.
14. Remove any of the following installed components from the system-board, and then place them on a
nonconductive surface or install them on the new system-board and chassis assembly:
v I/O expansion card. See "Removing a network adapter" on page 49.
v DIMMs. See "Removing a DIMM" on page 44.
v Management card. See "Removing the management card" on page 57.
15. Touch the static-protective package that contains the system-board and chassis assembly to any
unpainted metal surface on the IBM Flex System Enterprise Chassis or any unpainted metal surface on
any other grounded rack component, and then remove the assembly from its package.
16. Install any of the following components that were removed from the old system-board and chassis
assembly:
v Management card. See "Installing the management card" on page 59.
v DIMMs. See "Installing a DIMM" on page 46.
v I/O expansion card. See "Installing a network adapter" on page 50.
Note: Install a DIMM filler in any location where a DIMM is not present to avoid machine damage.
17. Install the bezel assembly. See "Installing the bezel assembly" on page 35 for instructions.
18. Install and close the compute node cover. See "Installing and closing the compute node cover" on
page 32.
Statement 21
CAUTION:
Hazardous energy is present when the compute node is connected to the power source. Always
replace the compute node cover before installing the compute node.
