Table 17. IBM Flex System p24L Compute Node (continued)
v Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action column until the problem is
solved.
v See Chapter 7, "Parts listing for IBM Flex System p24L Compute Node," on page 79 to determine which
components are CRUs and which components are FRUs.
v If an action step is preceded by Trained service technician only, that step must be performed only by a trained

Isolating firmware problems
You can use this procedure to isolate firmware problems.
About this task
To isolate a firmware problem, follow the procedure until the problem is solved.
Procedure
1. If the compute node is operating, shut down the operating system. Use the CMM to perform a virtual
reseat. If the problem no longer occurs, no further action is necessary. You are finished with this
procedure.
2. Start the PERM image. See "Starting the PERM image" on page 453.
3. Verify the system firmware levels. See "Verifying the system firmware levels" on page 17.
4. Choose one of the following options:
v Remain on the current firmware level. See "Recovering the TEMP image from the PERM image" on
page 453.
v Check the RETAIN tips and code change history. If a firmware update is needed, see "Updating the
firmware" on page 15.
