UART
Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter. A component that handles
asynchronous communication through an RS-232 serial interface.

Vertical blanking period
The portion of a video signal after the end of a frame and before the beginning of
a new frame. During this period, the video signal is "blank".

Vertical synchronization signal
The part of a video signal that indicates the end of a frame and the start of a new
one.
