Description o f MAP's
5.05
The SX-5 troubleshooting MAPS provide
the user with a logical sequence o f opera-
tions and fault-related questions which, i f used
correctly, enable
an
inexperienced person t o
locate any fault quickly.
MAP Symbols
5.06
There are four basic symbol shapes which
may be used in a MAP, and are defined as
follows
5.07
AND Block:
Used t o indicate a level one
step that must be performed Consists o f a
square with the word AND centered in the block
5.08
OR Block:
Used t o indicate a choice o f
level one steps, one of which must be
performed Consists o f a rectangle, with the text
centered in the block, and with the word OR
appearing between the alternative operations
5.09
The rectangle is also used t o border in-
structions which imply that the operations
must perform a task outside the scope o f the
MAP. The text is centered in the rectangle.
5.10
Decision Block:
Used t o indicate a de-
cision within the level one steps which
must be made. The symbol is based on the hex-
agon with the top and bottom sides extended
Decision text is centered in the symbol.
5.11
STARTlFlNlSHlJump t o Block:
Used t o
indicate the start and finish o f a MAP. Also
used t o indicate "jump to" points within the MAP,
for example "go t o (nl" or "return t o (nl". The
symbol is a rectangle with semicircular ends. Text
is centered in the symbol.
Use o f MAP's
5.12
The sequence o f MAP operations always
starts at the top o f a MAP and progresses
towards the bottom A MOVE t o another MAP
may be necessary, depending on the answers t o
the questions which are contained within the DE-
CISION symbols. The destination o f a MOVE is
clearly defined within the MOVE symbol. Ad-
ditional information related t o ACTIONS can be
found, where necessary, on the left-hand side of
the figure, or at the references made within the
ACTION symbol.

DETAILED PROCEDURES
6.01
Paragraphs 6.02
-
6.10 provide detailed
descriptions o f the troubleshooting pro-
cedures which require Level 2 Entry into the
system Reference t o these paragraphs is made
at relevant steps in the troubleshooting MAP's. In
performing any o f these ACTIONS the caution
given in Para 3.02 and the precautions given in
Para 5.02 must be observed
SLIC Removal /Replacement
6.02
There are six SLlCs in
an
SX-5
-
one per
extension
-
located on the main board be-
tween the memory module and the terminal strip
(refer t o Fig 6-1). They number 1 through 6 (left
t o right) and are associated with Equipment Num-
bers 1 through
6
respectively. The SLIC's are
plug-in modules which allows them t o be easily
interchanged, making fault finding by process o f
elimination simple.
6.03
T o remove a SLlC proceed as follows:
Remove power from the system, but
maintain the ground connection
Put on wrist strap.
Gain access t o the SLlCs (refer t o Para
3.04).
Grip each end o f the SLlC between the
thumb and forefinger and carefully lift the
SLlC away from the main board
6.04
The replacement procedures f o r a SLlC are
the reversal o f those for the removal.
