Horizon Software Features

The system is operated by responding to menus
displayed on the keypad screen. The operator can
select a fluid and its destination reel, enter the amount
to dispense, input optional data such as a work order
number or vehicle ID, verify that the entry is correct
prior to starting the dispense, and review any active
jobs or jobs that are waiting in queue.
Fluids and dispense areas can be selected by number
or by name, to eliminate the need to memorize num-
bers for fluids or locations.
Setup
In order to make the operator screens easy to use,
detailed information must be entered during setup. This
information includes all the labels for fluids, dispense
areas and control modules; assignment of solenoids
and meters to ports on the control modules; and cal-
ibration factors for each meter in the system.
Levels of Access
If desired, a PIN (personal identification number) can
be assigned during setup to each person who will use
the system. The PIN is entered by the user each time
the system is accessed and prevents unauthorized
use.
Each user name and PIN can be given different levels
of system access. There are three system access
levels:
1. Run – allows the user to dispense fluids only
2. Inventory – allows the user all run capabilities,
plus access to inventory monitoring
3. Setup – allows access to run and inventory, plus
all system setup, maintenance, and diagnostic
functions
In a typical shop, the operators may have Run access
only, the shop manager may have Inventory access,
and the system administrator or installer may have
Setup access.
Additional security can be configured into the system,
by assigning the person with Setup access a PIN that
includes alphabetic characters. This would require the
person to have access to the Administrators Keypad in
order to use the setup and diagnostic screens.

Fluid Supply Monitoring
The Inventory setup allows the user to monitor the
level of each tank on the system. A level can be set at
which the operator will be warned to refill the tank. It is
important that each time a tank is filled, the amount
added be entered into the Horizon system; there is no
physical tank-level-monitoring device. Current levels
are calculated by subtracting each dispense job from
the tank level that was entered.
Information Output
The user can choose to have dispense transaction
records and inventory reports sent to a printer or a
computer that is connected to the Horizon system.
If the printing option is chosen, the user can print each
dispense record out immediately after it is completed,
print all records out at a specified time once a day, or
both. Each printout will have the date and time on it.
If the computer option is chosen, the user can specify
which characters the computer will send to trigger the
records transfer and other transfer parameters.
System Diagnostics
The system diagnostics are accessible only to the
person with Setup access. From these screens, the
user can turn solenoids on and off manually, count
meter pulses from a specified meter, determine if all
control modules are talking across the network, print
setup information, and check the number of times the
system has been powered on and off. These features
are useful to the installer during setup time, as well as
when troubleshooting.
The system configuration and the completed transac-
tion records are stored in non-volatile memory to
ensure that no vital information is lost during a power
failure.
Setup Modification
The user can erase a single section or all of the system
configuration map. This is useful if the facility is being
modified or the Horizon system is being transferred to
a new location. It is recommended that the entire setup
be cleared prior to setting up the system for the first
time to ensure that there is no information remaining
from factory testing.
