Children should be restrained at all times when travelling in a car.
Up to the age of about 6 months, babies should be carried in a rearward-facing infant
capsule. Between the ages of 6 and 12 months, they should be in a rearward-facing child
seat. Between the ages of 12 months and 3 years, children can be carried in a forward
facing infant seat. When they outgrow this type of seat (approximately 3 years old
depending on their height and weight) children can be seated in an approved booster
seat, restrained by a lap/sash safety belt. By the age of approximately 6 years, when
they weigh more than 32 kilograms and are over 100 em tall, children can graduate to
a lap/sash safety belt alone.
Always ensure that the seat belt fits firmly around the infant restraint.
If a child can't see out of the window, don't raise him/her by means of an ordinary
cushion. It will not stay in place in a crash and the child can slip out of the straps and
become entangled.
WARNING: Child restraint anchorages are designed to withstand loads set out in
Australian Standard AS 1754-1991 (and subsequent amendments). Under no
circumstances are they to be used for adult seat belts or harnesses or for attaching other
items or equipment to the vehicle.
WARNING: NEVER install a rear facing child restraint in the front seat of a car with a
passenger's air bag. The child could be seriously injured if the passenger's air bag
inflates, as the child's head would be very close to the inflating air
allowable, you may install a forward-facing child restraint in the front seat but always
move the passenger's seat as far back as it will go.
It is always better to install a child restraint in the rear seat.
Never install a child restraint in a front seat of a car fitted with Side Impact Air bags.
Your car is fitted with three anchorage
points for child restraints. An anchor fitting
has been provided in the centre position.
The centre position is hidden by a hinged
cover. Pull the cover up at the front to
access the anchor.
