Remember, the alarm system is turned off and on when the "UNLOCK" and "LOCK"
•
buttons on the key are pressed. When the alarm system is switched ON, turning the
key in the lock and then opening a door triggers the alarm. The alarm system thinks
a break-in has occurred.
When the alarm system is turned on, you may open the boot by pressing
•
on the key. This does not set off the alarm, but leaves the alarm system on
_,.
and undisturbed.
Closing the boot nre-arms" the boot alarm.
The "LOCK11 button on the key will not function when the ignition is turned ON or the
•
driver's door is open.
Pressing "LOCK" once on the key:
•
- locks all doors,
- disables the engine,
- sets the alarm (after a short delay),
- switches the interior dome light off, if already on,
- withdraws the power antenna,
- briefly flashes the exterior turn signals,
- deactivates the power windows.
Pressing "LOCK" a second time, within
- sets deadlock,
- turns on the exterior turn signals for
Pressing "UNLOCK" once on the key:
- unlocks the driver's door,
- enables the engine (as does turning the ignition key in the ignition switch),
- switches off the alarm system,
- switches on the interior dome and power windows for a short time,
- flashes the exterior turn signals twice,
- switches on the head lights for
- Caprice Note: may also move seat and mirrors to correct position, if another
key was previously used to drive the car (see "Personal Identity Keys" earlier
in this chapter).
Pressing "UNLOCK" a second time (or keeping the "UNLOCK" button depressed for
more than half a second):
- unlocks all the other doors,
- re-activates head lights for a further
