Front Drive Replacement

The Intel® Server System M50FCP2UR family has support for the following front drive bay configuration
options.
• Up to eight 2.5" front drive bays (iPC M50FCP2UR208). Expandable to sixteen or twenty-four drives
with optional accessory kits installed.
Up to twelve 3.5" front drive bays (iPC M50FCP2UR312)

Front drive replacement procedures are different for systems that support 2.5" drives and for those that
support 3.5" drives. The following sections describe the procedures for each.
6.8.1

2.5" Drive Bays

All 2.5" drives are mounted to a tool-less, non-detachable, drive rail. The front drives are hot swap capable
with supported redundant RAID configurations.
The following figure identifies the 2.5" drive bay components.
Note: To support essential system airflow requirements, all front drive bays must be populated with a drive
or supplied drive blank.
The 2.5" drive bays can support SSDs with a drive height of 7mm or 15mm. Drive extraction from the drive
bay and installation into the drive bay are the same. However, additional steps are required to replace a
7mm drive.
Required Tools and Supplies
Replacement 2.5" solid state drive (SSD)
