System Fan Assembly Removal / Installation

The system includes a system fan assembly that holds six system fans. The system fan assembly is modular
and must be removed from the system to route internal cables between the back and front of the system,
and between the onboard PCIe MCIO connectors on the server board to the backplanes. The fan assembly
must also be removed when replacing the server board.
It is not necessary to remove the system fan assembly to replace a faulty system fan. See
Required Tools and Supplies
Anti-static wrist strap and conductive workbench pad (recommended)
1. Ensure that the system power is off and disconnect the power supply cords.

4. Lift the latches on both sides of the system fan upward to unlock (see Letter A).
5. Grasp each end of the fan module and lift the entire module straight up (see Letter B).
6. Carefully place the fan module component side down onto a flat surface.
Note: Do NOT rest the fan module on the fan connectors on the bottom side of the fan module.
Doing so may damage the connectors.
