Replacing a faulty hard drive

If you need to replace a faulty hard drive, then do the following:
1.
Review this entire section before proceeding to become familiar
with the requirements and process.
2.
Prepare the server for hard drive replacement as described in
"Preparing the server for hardware maintenance" on page 120.
ATTENTION
3.
Remove the faulty drive as described in "To remove a hard drive
from the server" on page 151.
4.
Install the new hard drive in the drive carrier as described in "Pull
the drive carrier out of the chassis, and then place it cage-side-up on
an antistatic surface.." on page 152.
5.
Install the drive carrier assembly in the server as described in "To
install the hard drive" on page 153.
703t Server Maintenance and Diagnostics
Due to the confined space for media drive cabling inside
the server, hard drive replacement is easiest when the
server is laying on its side. Laying the server on its side
helps to prevent damage to the server and internal
components.
