Differential locks

Differential locks
You will find information about off-road
driving in the "Operation" section
( page 149).
The differential locks improve the traction
of the vehicle. Engage the differential
locks:
on rough terrain
to deactivate ABS on off-road terrain
when fording
when driving on snowy, icy or muddy
surfaces
Do not engage the front-axle differential
lock if you have to drive around tight
bends. The steering capability of the vehi-
cle is otherwise severely restricted.
Only accelerate moderately when pulling
away with the differential locks engaged.

Risk of accident
Never drive on firm road surfaces with the
differential locks engaged. The steering ca-
pability is severely restricted when the front
axle differential lock is engaged, thus in-
creasing the risk of an accident.
ABS is automatically deactivated if you en-
gage a differential lock.
!
To prevent damage to the transfer case, you
may only operate the vehicle on a roller dy-
namometer (single axle roller dynamometer):
if the non-driven axle is jacked up
or
if the relevant propeller shaft is disconnected
and
the transfer case differential lock is engaged
nur für internen Gebrauch
Engaging the differential locks
The vehicle has three differential locks:
Transfer case differential: controls
compensation between the axles
Rear axle differential: controls compen-
sation between the rear wheels
Front axle differential: controls com-
pensation between the front wheels
