Operation
Tyres and wheels
Notes on cleaning tyres
Do not use aggressive cleaning equip-
ment, for example high-pressure clean-
ers, as these could damage the tyres.
!
Do not clean your wheels with acidic wheel
cleaner, since this could cause the wheel bolts/
nuts to rust.
Direction of rotation
Tyres with a specified direction of rotation
offer additional benefits, e.g. in the event
of aquaplaning. These benefits will only be
available to you if the correct direction of
rotation is observed.
An arrow on the sidewall of the tyre indi-
cates its correct direction of rotation.
i
You may fit a spare wheel against the direc-
tion of rotation.

Tyre tread
G
Risk of accident
Please note that:
Tyre grip decreases rapidly on wet roads
if the tread depth is less than 3 mm. For
this reason, replace tyres with lower tyre
tread depth.
Replace winter tyres when the tread
depth reaches 4 mm as these tyres are
no longer able to provide adequate tyre
grip.
A tyre may not wear evenly. For this rea-
son, regularly check the depth and con-
dition of the tyre tread over the whole
width of all tyres. If necessary, turn the
front wheels to one side.
You could otherwise lose control of the vehi-
cle and cause an accident due to the re-
duced grip of the tyres on the road.

Tyre pressure
G
Risk of accident
If tyre pressure is too high or too low, driving
safety will be affected and you could cause
an accident. For this reason, check the tyre
pressure in all tyres, including the spare
wheel, regularly and before any lengthy jour-
ney, and correct it as necessary.
Use a suitable tyre pressure gauge for this
purpose. The outward appearance of the
tyres does not allow conclusions to be
drawn about the tyre pressure.
The tyre pressure must be adjusted ac-
cording the data given in the table in the
"Technical data" section ( page 241). The
spare wheel should also be inflated to the
pressure given.
