Differential locks

You will find information about off-road
driving in the "Operation" section
( page 269).
The differential locks improve the traction
of the vehicle. Engage the differential
locks:
on rough terrain
to deactivate ABS and ESP on off-road
terrain
when fording
when driving on snowy, icy or muddy
surfaces
!
Do not engage the front-axle differen-
tial lock on tight bends. The steering
capability of the vehicle is otherwise
severely restricted.
!
Only accelerate moderately when pull-
ing away with the differential locks en-
gaged.
To prevent damage to the transfer
case, never operate the vehicle on a
roller dynamometer (single axle roller
dynamometer) unless:
the non-driven axle is jacked up
or
the relevant propeller shaft is dis-
connected
and
the transfer case differential lock is
engaged

Differential locks
Risk of accident
Do not drive on firm road surfaces with the
differential locks engaged. Steering capabil-
ity is severely restricted when the front axle
differential lock is engaged, thus increasing
the risk of an accident.
ESP, BAS and ABS are automatically deacti-
vated when you select a differential lock.
