G
Risk of accident
If it is not secured correctly, a roof rack or
the roof load could come loose from the ve-
hicle and cause an accident. Follow the
manufacturer's installation instructions
when using roof racks.
The roof load raises the vehicle's centre of
gravity and therefore changes the driving
characteristics. Please note the maximum
roof loads ( page 244). Always adapt your
driving style to the current road, traffic and
weather conditions and drive with particular
care when you have a load on the roof.

i
Mercedes–Benz roof racks have been spe-
cially developed and tested according to
Mercedes-Benz standards. These roof racks
conform to DIN standard 75302 and are addi-
tionally subjected to crash and durability tests.
!
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you only
use roof racks that have been tested and ap-
proved for use on Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
These help to prevent vehicle damage.
Load the roof rack in such a way that the vehicle
is not damaged and will not be damaged during
the journey.

Loading guidelines
G
Risk of injury
Secure and position loads as described in
the loading guidelines.
Vehicle occupants could otherwise be in-
jured by the load in the event of sharp brak-
ing, a sudden change of direction, or an
accident. This also applies for seats which
have been removed.
You will find further information in the "Se-
curing a load" section ( page 112).
Even if you follow all loading guidelines, the
load increases the risk of injury in the event
of an accident.
G
Risk of poisoning
Keep the tailgate closed when driving. Oth-
erwise, exhaust fumes could enter the vehi-
cle interior and poison you.
