Switch on the ignition.
Shift the selector lever to N.

The transmission can only change gear if the
battery is sufficiently charged.
If you cannot move the selector lever to N, the
propeller shafts connected to the driven axles
must be removed.
Transporting the vehicle
The towing eyes can be used to pull the ve-
hicle onto a special transporter or trailer
for transportation.
Switch on the ignition.
Shift the selector lever to position N.
Shift the transfer case to neutral posi-
tion N ( page 85).
Only lash the vehicle by the wheels/rims
or at the lashing points* provided, and not
by the chassis parts, e.g. wishbones or
trailing arms. You could otherwise damage
the vehicle.
Lashing points*
The lashing points for transporting the ve-
hicle are located on the side wall on the A-
and B-pillars, behind the rear wheel and on
the frame under the vehicle.

Practical advice
Towing away and tow-starting
Tow-starting (emergency engine
start)
Your vehicle is equipped with an automatic
transmission. For this reason, it is not pos-
sible to start the engine by tow-starting. If
the engine does not start, try jump-starting
( page 219).
Towing in the event of various
malfunctions:
In the event of engine damage, trans-
mission damage or electrical malfunc-
tioning
Shift the selector lever to N
( page 81).
Shift the transfer case to the neutral
position N ( page 85).
With transfer case damage
Before you tow the vehicle away, the pro-
peller shafts to the drive axles must be re-
moved.
