The first 1,500 km
If you treat the engine with sufficient care
from the very start, it will reward you with
excellent performance for a very long time
afterwards.
You should therefore drive at varying
road and engine speeds for the first
1,500 km.
You should avoid placing a heavy load
on the engine, e.g. by driving at full
throttle, during this time. Do not ex-
ceed

engine speed for each gear.
Try to avoid depressing the accelerator
pedal beyond the pressure point (kick-
down).
Do not shift down a gear manually in or-
der to brake.
Use ranges 4, 3, 2 or 1 for slow driving
only, for example in mountainous ter-
rain.

After 1,500 km, you can gradually bring
the vehicle up to full road speed and in-
crease the engine speed.

You should also observe these notes if the
engine or axle gear on your vehicle has been re-
placed.
