Host and Device Communications

The SMD 101 accepts SIS (Simple Instruction Set) commands via the rear panel remote
RS-232 port, the front panel Configuration port, and the rear panel Ethernet (LAN) Port.
SIS commands consist of one or more characters per command field. They do not require
special characters to begin or end the command character sequence. Each response to an
SIS command ends with a carriage return and a line feed (CR/LF =
end of the response character string. A string is one or more characters.
SMD 101-initiated Messages
When a local event such as a front panel selection of adjustment takes place, the SMD 101
responds by sending a message to the host. No response is required of the host.

Copyright Information

The copyright message is displayed up connection to the SMD 101 via TCP/IP or Telnet, or
after a power cycle via RS-232.

The SMD 101 sends the boot and copyright messages under the following circumstances:

the SMD 101 and a serial communication program such as HyperTerminal is open), the
connected unit sends these messages via RS-232 when first powered on.
If the SMD 101 is on, it sends the boot and copyright messages when a Telnet
connection to the SMD 101 is first opened. The day of the week, date, and time are
shown when the SMD 101 is connected via Telnet, but not via RS-232. If using a Telnet
connection, the copyright message, date, and time may be followed by a password
prompt.

the device serial number.
In the event of a device reset, depending on the reset type, the password reverts
