7.2 Possible clutch failures and instructions for their troubleshooting

The list of possible clutch failures and instructions for their troubleshooting are
shown in table 7.2 .
Table 7.2
Failure, external manifestation,
cause
Clutch coupling does not transmit full torque ("clutch skidding")
There is no clearance between the
clutch release bearing and release
levers – "clutch is half disengaged"
(insufficient
clutch
travel)
Partial engagement of clutch cou-
pling (clutch arm 44 (figure 3.2.6)
does not return to initial position)
when the clutch pedal is released,
due to failure in clutch operation
control
Clutch driven disk facings are worn
out
Clutch driven disk facings are
oiled-up due to ingress of oil into
dry section
Poor compression spring force
(spring shrink due to continuous
skidding and clutch overheating)
Clutch coupling can not be fully disengaged ("clutch grabs and shudders")
Clearance space between clutch
release bearing and release lever is
increased (substantial clutch-pedal
clearance)
Insufficient clutch lever 44 (figure
3.2.6) when the clutch pedal is fully
depressed
Misalignment of release levers
Excessive warping of driven disks
Blocking of driven disk hub on
transmission shaft splines
Damaged transmission shaft sup-
port bearing in the flywheel
Adjust clearance space between clutch release
bearing and release levers according to clause
3.2.4.1 « Adjustment of clutch control»

Detect and eliminate the cause as indicated in Ta-
ble 7.2b «Possible failures in clutch coupling con-
trol and guidelines for troubleshooting»
Change facings or driven disks assembled
Detect and eliminate the cause of oil ingress into
dry compartment
Change compression springs
Adjust the clearance between the clutch release
bearing and release lever according to clause
3.2.4.1 «Adjustment of clutch control »
Provide full stroke of clutch lever and accordingly,
full stroke of the hydraulic booster piston when fully
pressing the clutch pedal not less than size « » as
specified in table 7.2b "Possible clutch failures and
instructions for their troubleshooting"
Adjust the position of release levers according to
clause 3.2.2.4 «Adjustment of clutch coupling re-
lease levers»
Check the butt beats of driven disk facings in rela-
tion to hub spline outer diameter – the value shall
be not more than 0.8mm at radius 165mm. If it is
impossible to adjust, the disks shall be replaced
Skin the splines providing free movement of disks
on the transmission shaft
Replace the bearing
