Side work light Relay - Testing (A.40.A.18.82 - G.40.A.20)
Test Point
1 Place Ignition Switch in "ON" posi-
tion.
Close Work Light Switch.
Measure for 12 volts at LH Side
Work Light Relay (pin 5).
2 Open LH Door Switch. Measure for
12 volts at LH Side Work Light Relay
(pin 1).
3 Measure for 12 volts at LH Side
Work Light Relay
(pin 3).
4 Disconnect the LH Side Work Light
Relay. Measure the resistance on
circuit 162 (BK) between LH Side
Work Light Relay (pin 2) and ground.

Test Point
1 Place Ignition Switch in "ON" posi-
tion.
Close Work Light Switch.
Measure for 12 volts at RH Side
Work Light Relay (pin 5).
2 Measure for 12 volts at RH Side
Work Light Relay (pin 1).
3 Measure for 12 volts at RH Side
Work Light Relay
(pin 3).
4 Disconnect the RH Side Work Light
Relay. Measure the resistance on
circuit 161(BK) between RH Side
Work Light Relay (pin 2) and ground.
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS - LIGHTING SYSTEM
Expected Result
12 volts.
If good reading, the relay is operating
properly.
12 volts.
If good reading, go to next test point.
12 volts.
If good reading, go to next test point.
Less than 1 ohm.
If good reading, replace LH Side
Work Light Relay.
Expected Result
12 volts.
If good reading, the relay is operating
properly.
12 volts.
If good reading, go to next test point.
12 volts.
If good reading, go to next test point.
Less than 1 ohm.
If good reading, replace RH Side
Work Light Relay.

Other Result (Possible Cause)
LH Side Work Light Relay.
Adjacent circuits.
Go to next test point.
Open or short to ground in circuit
969 (PU) between Time Delay Mod-
ule (pin 87) and LH Side Work Light
Relay (pin 1).
Time Delay Module.
See Interior Lights section for test-
ing.
Open in circuit 73 (RD) between LH
Side Work Light Relay (pin 3) and
Fuse #50. Short to ground on cir-
cuit 76 (PU) 165 (PU) or 72 (PU) be-
tween LH Side Work Light Relay (pin
5) and Side Work Lights connector
X297 and X298 (pin A).
A short will cause Fuse #50 to blow.
Open in circuit 162 (BK) between LH
Side Work Light Relay (pin 2) and
ground.
Other Result (Possible Cause)
RH Side Work Light Relay.
Adjacent circuits.
Go to next test point.
Open or short to ground in circuit 180
(WH) between RH Side Work Light
Relay (pin 1) and CCM-2 connector
X015 (pin J1-24).
See Service Manual for testing of
CCM.
Open circuit 71 (RD) or 73 (RD) be-
tween RH Side Work Light Relay (pin
3) and Fuse #50. Short to ground on
circuit 72 (PU), 165 (PU) or 76 (PU)
between RH Side Work Light Relay
(pin 5) and Side Work Lights connec-
tors X297 and X298 (pin A).
A short will cause Fuse #50 to blow.
Open in circuit 161 (BK) between RH
Side Work Light Relay (pin 2) and
ground.
