88 Appendix C: Matrox 4Sight GPm (Ivy Bridge) BIOS reference

Overview

BIOS stands for basic input/output system. It acts as an interface between the
operating system and the hardware. When the unit is turned on, it is the BIOS
that is responsible for booting up the unit, and loading the operating system that
is used to run applications. The computer BIOS is written on a flash memory chip
installed on the Matrox 4Sight GPm motherboard.
You can change computer BIOS settings by running a program called the BIOS
Setup Utility, which can be accessed soon after turning on the unit
save these BIOS settings, they are saved to the BIOS flash memory chip.
This appendix shows you how to access and change the settings of the BIOS Setup
Utility.
❖ Note that the Matrox 4Sight GPm unit uses a BIOS written by Insyde Software
Corp. Some of the menu items are not applicable to the supported operating
systems of the Matrox 4Sight GPm unit.

The BIOS Setup Utility

The BIOS Setup Utility allows you to modify certain hardware settings. The
default settings are suitable in most cases, but under some circumstances, you
might need to change them.

Entering the BIOS Setup Utility

To enter the BIOS Setup Utility, turn on Matrox 4Sight GPm and press the Esc
key during power-on self-test (POST). You only have a few moments to press this
key before the boot-up process continues.
On the front page screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the box for SCU (System
Configuration Utility), referred to in this manual as the BIOS Setup Utility. Press
the Enter key to select this box.
1. Note that most of the settings of the BIOS Setup Utility have been optimally config-
ured to the specifications of Matrox 4Sight GPm. However, you might need to
change certain settings if you make additions to the unit.
