36 Chapter 2: Getting started with your Matrox 4Sight GPm unit
Warning
Your Matrox 4Sight GPm provides discrete I/O. When the output signal is on (a
logical "1"), the output is sinking to ground and the current flows from the
connected device to your Matrox 4Sight GPm (the observed voltage at the output
pin will be low). When the auxiliary output signal is off (a logical "0"), the output
is floating (the observed voltage will be high if pulled high by the connected
circuitry).
State of the output signal
On
Off
The Matrox 4Sight GPm output signals are compatible with voltages between 0
and 24 V.
All outputs are fuse-protected up to 100 mA. The sink driver of your
Matrox 4Sight GPm uses a non-resettable fuse to protect your unit from
connected external devices. The fuse protects your Matrox 4Sight GPm if you
accidentally connect your unit to an external device that provides more current
than Matrox 4Sight GPm can safely sink to ground.
If you connect your Matrox 4Sight GPm to a device that exceeds the maximum
current of 100 mA, the fuse will blow. The auxiliary I/O interface will become
unusable, and you will have to return your unit to Matrox.
The exact connection between the Matrox 4Sight GPm auxiliary I/O interface,
the connected external device, and its power source depends entirely on the type
of external device to which you connect.
The following sub-sections detail how to connect third-party devices to your
Matrox 4Sight GPm.
State of the sink driver
